The Vechaar (Vishalla Environmental Centre for Heritage of Art, Architecture and Research) Museum in Ahmedabad has in its proud possession around 2000 rare utensils that document the skills and ingenuity of India’s craftsmen and the evolution of our daily necessities. There’s no doubt that you’ll be blown away by what you see.
Nestled in the Vishalla Village Restaurant, the Vechaar museum was designed and curated way back in 1981 by architect Mr. Surendra Patel with the aid of anthropologist Mr Jyotindra Jain.
The architecture of the museum, with its mud-plastered walls and small water bodies, helps create its quaint village-like atmosphere. Talk about innovative right? It’s almost as if you’ve traveled back in time to when these utensils were still being used…definitely a museum visit you don’t want to miss.
The collection includes the most unusual clay, brass, terracotta and bronze examples of cooking and serving vessels, storage jars, spice and tiffin boxes, jugs, kettles, pans, nutcrackers, knives, havan kunds and any other utensil you can name. Come to think about it, you could practically do all your utensil shopping from here…if it wasn’t a rare collection of important utensils.
Each piece has a special worth that says volumes about the artistic worth of ancient devices.So what are you waiting for? Gear up for a unique utensil experience!
